REVIEW OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT (EIS) REPORT
SUBMITTED BY ZESCO LIMITED FOR THE PROPOSED EXTENSION OF A 330kV TRANSMISSION LINE AT KARIBA NORTH BANK

ZESCO Limited is proposing to construct a 130km long transmission line (330kV Capacity) from Kariba North Bank Power Station to Kafue West substation where it will feed into the national grid. The transmission line will pass through three districts namely; Siavonga, Mazabuka and Kafue.

The project will involve wayleave clearing, erecting structures, string conductors, installation of counterpoise, substations clean-up and re-vegetation. The project is estimated to cost US$68 million and is expected to be implemented in six phases over an 18 month-period.

This notice therefore, serves to inform members of the general public, interested and affected parties that an Environmental Impact Assessment Report for the proposed construction of a 130km long transmission line from Kariba North Bank Power Station to Kafue West substation by ZESCO Limited has been received by the ECZ for review. In accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Protection and Pollution Control Act Number 12 of 1990 as read with the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations; SI. No. 28, of 1997, the report is available for scrutiny at the following places:

  1. ECZ Information and Documentation Centre, Lusaka
  2. Kafue District Council, Civic Centre
  3. ECZ, Chirundu Office

The report will be available for inspection during office hours from 09:00 hours to 16:00 hours. Interested and affected parties may send their written submissions to the undersigned not later than 22nd July, 2010.
