  CP Methodology

The main steps of a CP assessment in industry are outlined below. Cleaner Production is a systematic, comprehensive method for identifying options to prevent or avoid generation of waste.

It should be noted that the success of CP depends on a number of factors such as commitment from top management and involvement of all employees.

Benefits of CP

§         Decreased costs of raw materials and energy

§         Decreased waste management costs

§         Improved public image

§         Enhanced productivity

§         Improved product quality

§         Increased profit margin

The potential for CP in industry

According to the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), it is estimated that 70 % of all current wastes and emissions from industrial processes can be prevented at source by the use of technically sound and economically profitable procedures.

Further to this, it is estimated that more than 50% of the waste volumes can be avoided by simple management measures and minor process changes!
